Number (N)ine
Born in Tokyo in 1973, Takahiro Miyashita launched Number (N)ine in 1996 after working for legacy Japanese retailer Nepenthes. The label quickly gained recognition for its slouchy, asymmetrical silhouettes and music-inspired aesthetic, drawing on Americana, grunge, and Pacific Northwest influences. Debuting at Tokyo Fashion Week in 2000 and later showing in Paris, Miyashita reinterpreted American subcultures through a distinctly Japanese lens, combining dark, melancholic moods with thoughtful tailoring.
After closing Number (N)ine following the Autumn-Winter 2009/10 season, Miyashita continued his exploration of individuality and expressive design with TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist, cementing his status as one of contemporary fashion’s most innovative and introspective voices.
