Raf Simons Spring-Summer 2000 Summa Cum Laude Tank
Black cut off tank top from Raf Simons' vaunted Spring-Summer 2000 collection. A rare, hard to find collectable graphic top featuring the 'SUMMA CUM LAUDE' phrase printed on both the front and back, the garment is a perfect representation of Simons' early uniform-inspired work.
The Spring–Summer 2000 collection drew on the codes of school uniforms, starched shirting, varsity insignias, and Latin text, with Simons exploring how structure and identity are internalized and ultimately broken. Tropes from Flemish subculture, such as gabber aesthetics, supplemented this, as Simons appropriated them to mine its emerging techno-fascination with uniformity.
